Tuesday night event recap

Posted in Store News, In-Store Events, Event Recaps at 10:57 pm by Terrell

Last night the store hosted Christopher Baker, author of the Moon Handbook Cuba. Christopher has traveled to Cuba more than 30 times and has a deep connection with the people he has met there. I asked staffers who were present what they found most interesting about the presentation. Holly thought it was interesting that Christopher felt that Castro has been using the US embargo for his political advantage all these years. She also agreed with his observation that the best places to stay in Cuba are private houses that rent rooms known as casas particulares. Misch noted that Christopher talked about the bill currently making its way through Congress that would allow American tourism in Cuba. He recommended a website to people interested in supporting this bill. http://www.cubacentral.com/

Check this space next week for a recap of our event with Wildland Adventures about Peru.

Michelin Green Guide Update

Posted in Store News at 11:40 pm by Terrell

If you’re one of those people waiting for one of the updated Michelin Green Guides that were supposed to come out in December and January, you might like to know why they haven’t arrived yet. Michelin changed to a new distributor as of January first and, we hate to say it but it’s true, the new company is notoriously slow at shipping new books and maps. We hope to see all those delayed titles soon but we have no firm dates yet.
